A few years ago, if someone had asked me if I would ever have a cosmetic procedure to enhance my body, I probably would have said yes. My friend and I always talked about getting a boob lift after we’d had all our babies, but after having my 4th child I was completely put off! I can now say I don’t think I could ever voluntarily allow myself to be cut open. I had 3 C-Sections out of necessity, but to undergo surgery merely for cosmetic enhancement…..I really couldn’t. I went through so much pain, and discomfort, not to mention the recovery, when I think back it actually gives me chills!!!

I know mum’s who have had boob jobs, boob lifts, fat transfers, tummy tucks…..and the list goes on and on! Don’t get me wrong….many are completely happy with the results. But I do also think there’s a danger to fall into a trap of never being happy with your appearance, and always seeking the next best procedure to achieve the perfect body. Not to mention the costs involved each time.
Most recently, my friend has decided that she wants to completely go for it now, and look her best for her 40th birthday. It’s funny because only a few weeks ago I’d said to my hubby that I’ve got a year and a half to get looking good for my 40th. The only difference being that I’m planning to eat healthy and exercise. I also feel like being a mum of 3 daughter’s, I need to set an example to them, and show them that they should be happy and embrace themselves, and that they are beautiful the way they are. There are so many other ways to change your body if you’re not happy with it. My hubby is well into fitness, and he is always so supportive at the times I decide to try to live a healthier lifestyle, and also at those times when I fall off the wagon. It’s so important to me to have the reassurance that he loves me even though my body isn’t the same as it was 15 years ago!!

I would never knock anyone for getting cosmetic surgery post pregnancy if that’s what they truly want. I know how depressing the changes that our bodies go through during and after pregnancy can make us. So if someone is set on it for all the right reasons, then that’s cool. However, from hearing about people’s individual experiences with these types of cosmetic procedures, there are a few snippets of common advice that I’ll share with you:
- Cosmetic surgery is by no means a quick long lasting fix to weight loss. Even when you have undergone the surgery, you need to try to maintain your results through a healthy balanced lifestyle of diet and exercise.
- Connect with and speak to as many people as you can who have had the procedure that you want to have done.
- Make sure you really do your research about the costs, the surgeon, the clinic, the effects of any procedure and the health and safety aspect of it all.
- Talk to your loved ones and those around you. It can really help if you have the support of your close friends and family.
I am not a health or cosmetic surgery pro….I’m just sharing my personal experience and views as a mum who had once considered going down this road. Although now not for me, if you are embarking on this journey just make sure it’s for the right reasons and you’ve done your homework!!! On that note, have any of you had any cosmetic procedures done post pregnancy? What do you all think about this topic? Or do you have mixed views about the whole thing?
Until the next time…….
Keep smiling
